It’s really well pitched, as in, it’s written for non-clinicians and has to refine complex topics into an article sized read. OK, you wouldn’t use the content to write a thesis, but the publication is a good read nonetheless.

We had a disabled child for 20 years (pre-NDIS) and I can tell you that my wife suffered burnout after about 12 years being a full time carer whilst I was making money to pay for the house and the disability needs of my daughter. Whilst being a full time carer could be considered “work”, it is not the conventional office based (or workplace based) activity that is associated with paid employment. One of the key signs/symptoms of burn out is tiredness. Complete and utter tiredness. The need to go back to bed after only being up for 10 minutes. The only remedy that I found worked was rest. A lot of rest, separate from the stressor that created the burnout. I am talking about 2 – 3 weeks of separation. Letting the body and mind recover and rebuild. Volunteers are another group of individuals that suffer burnout. Once these people suffer burnout they very rarely return to volunteering.
