Bullying and harassment are not that difficult to identify – it’s getting individuals and organisations to take meaningful and appropriate action which is the hard part. Just look at the plethora of harassment claims coming out of the entertainment industry (and others) . In pretty well all those cases people knew that the man (or men) involved were bullies and sexual predators yet no one did anything, in particular other men who knew what was going on. I say in particular other men, because usually men have the position of power in a given situation (and yes I know some men get harassed and bullied too!) and so have much less to “lose” than the women being harassed. The #MeToo and # TimesUp are now bringing attention to these issues; many women have now found their voices. Hopefully this will spread to other workplaces too and HR Departments will grow some backbone and follow up these complaints in some real and effective way.

I understand the desire Peter but any policy maker must be aware of the red tape criticisms. The more OHS paperwork, the less likely employers and PCBUs are to use the guidances and Codes.
