There are ways to support government initiatives without making a grand announcement – establish a working group, say that the intention is to present the new regulations to Parliament this year, acknowledge that even without the regulations WorkSafe is stepping up its inspection and guidance on psychosocial hazards. There could have been a lot said but its absence made the shadow darker.
Some lawyers seem convinced the regulations will be released this year and this remains likely BUT there are hints and rumours that the regulations will be shelved, especially if business groups argue about the increased costs the regulations will; cause. Perhaps the business cost of living crisis (sorry, profits) will hold political sway. Victoria’s has a reputation for going nit alone on OHS matters.
