John, it is not my area of expertise so I am not going to argue about statistics that I am quoting from others. The makeup of the problem isn’t really the point in some ways. OHS people should focus on the violence as the principal concern as it is the hazard from wh9ich harm occurs. The next step is to consider perpetrators, victims and bystanders to identify the most effective control measures. I am still trying to work the latter part out as I don’t think the control measures are as obvious as some suspect.

Still not correct – it is not the overwhelming majority who are women and children.. If you look at the website I linked to you we find that the correct statement is a marginal majority of adult women, and a majority of physical violence to children.

John, the seminar acknowledged that violence occurs amongst all family members and combinations but said that it was undeniable that the overwhelming majority of those directly affected by family violence were women and children. I apologise if this wasn’t clear in the original article.

The fact is that the majority of domestic violence is two-person violence between a man and a woman. Further research into physical violence against children (and I’m not talking about corporal punishment) shows that 30% of the physical violence is from the mother. If you really want to be informed go to http://www.domesticviolenceresearch.org/domestic-violence-facts-and-statistics-at-a-glance/
And from there you can read the full report of the Partner Abuse State of Knowledge project.

I have stood and stated in as many places as possible women are violent towards men.
I stand as the Mum and foster Mum of 2 sons who were attacked physically mentally and emotionally by their wives.
Both of my sons have physical mental and emotional scars from the years that they were abused.
I raised my sons to be respectful of everyone so to learn of the years of abuse both lived through is heart breaking for all of the family.

We as a society need to call domestic violence out for what it is not add an extra unwarranted label of gender.
