My questions to Mr. Rudd would be, \”What has been the increase in real productivity since measurements have been taken?\” \”Why have real wages remained relatively flat while productivity has increased?\” \”Why hasn\’t real productivity been matched by a shortening of the work week?\”

Of course, my questions won\’t be asked. The Loyal Opposition don\’t want to raise these matters and neither do the Greens, as far as I know.

The follow-up element is critical, and related to an earlier article you did on the USA survey on the value of OH&S training. Sure, there is always another project that has to be got onto, but clever assessment of effectiveness has to be the go.

It is curious how so much emphasis is placed on following the law, and that compliance anxiety sometimes prevails over the fact that the whole reason for the law is to get practical, tangible safety improvements. It\’s not putting the \”cart before the horse\”, more like harnessing up the horse and forgetting about why you did it in the first place.
