Your throwaway comment, “not a boiler and pressure vessel or scaffolding inspector anywhere” is telling when we think about the physical causes of workplace incidents. You also mentioned in another post that we should stop “worshipping the c-suite and focus on the workers who are getting hurt”. I’m just finishing writing up my 6-month long ethnographic research and these are 2 of the key conclusions:
– The absence of safety professional work as goal-directed risk reduction activitity
– Alignment of safety professionals with line management at the expense of worker safety
It’s nice to see other data points and commentary raise and debate these issues.
