So about that… I entered a very popular fast-food outlet last week. Ambled my way up to their counter and placed an order. While there, I glanced to my left and saw hanging, proudly, this particular businesses health and safety statement. It said something to the effect of “Our main priority is, and always will be, our customer’s health and wellbeing.”

Really? My health? I was standing in a fast-food outlet. (Fast-food and… health?)

This is a company that I could, if I felt so inclined, purchase shares in. Which tells me their main priority is commercial. It is to continue to entice me and the 1,000s of hapless others like me (i.e. those of us with next-t0-zero capacity to ward off the magnetic pull of their marketing) to purchase their food. And there is absolutely no way their standard offering – admittedly, as truly delicious as it is. Let me be crystal clear about that – is tucker you’d ever see residing on the healthy food pyramid.

If they were really that serious about my health and wellbeing, they’d have to close shop.

So spare me the marketing fluff about being concerned about my health and wellbeing. Sure, I get that they need to make sure my visit to their outlet is as safe as it can be. But being concerned for my health? When I could almost wolf down the recommended average daily dietary intake in one sitting, without breaking stride.

My health as their main priority?

I’m not buying it.
